David Tibet: Hallucinate, Children
23 October 2026 – 4 April 2027
DOX Centre for Contemporary Art, Prague
Exhibition opening: 22 October 2026 at 7 p.m.
David Tibet, founder of Current 93, has spent decades creating one of the most distinctive bodies of work in the experimental underground. His musical world encompasses dozens of albums and collaborations with artists including Steven Stapleton, Michael Cashmore, Nick Cave, Shirley Collins and ANOHNI. Hallucinate, Children brings his visual work into focus, revealing the breadth of an imagination that moves between music, painting, drawing and the written word.
Developed in collaboration with Tibet, the exhibition brings together works from across his career. His drawings and paintings stand as works in their own right, while sharing deep connections with his music, writings, publishing and longstanding engagement with visionary literature, biblical and apocryphal texts, and less familiar spiritual traditions.
Dream, revelation, unease and ecstasy take form through a recurring cast of figures and symbols: children, stars, birds, animals, angels, sacred names and apparitions. Set against apocalyptic landscapes, these images inhabit a world where innocence meets terror, fragility carries prophetic force, and the nursery rhyme echoes alongside the Last Judgment.
Tibet’s influences reach across centuries of visionary and supernatural literature, from John Milton and William Blake to M. R. James, Count Stenbock and Thomas Ligotti. Christian apocalyptic thought, obscure supernatural writings and the British hallucinatory underground also run through his work, forming part of a deeply personal symbolic language.
Hallucinate, Children invites visitors into that world: urgent, unsettling and strangely tender, poised on the threshold of revelation.
