Helmed by Andy Swan, TACTICAL PAGAN marks a new chapter for the veteran artist, who began his music career in the early 1980s, inspired by the industrial sounds of Throbbing Gristle, Whitehouse, and Cabaret Voltaire. Over the years, Swan worked alongside Broadrick in Final, before transitioning into dance music in the early ’90s, forming IROHA in the mid-2000s, and contributing to KHOST in 2014. TACTICAL PAGAN draws from the industrial soundscape of the early ’80s. Weaving elements of post-industrial, trip-hop, and sprawling downtempo electronics into a hypnotic, codeine-induced haze. Discordant guitar work, eroded beats, vocal samples, and atmospheric synths contort into a mesmerizing, shot-on-VHS aesthetic.
