Arð

Arð hail from Northumbria, England, and are the originators of monastic doom, a powerful fusion of crushing doom metal, choral arrangements, and early medieval history. Led by composer and multi-instrumentalist Mark Deeks (WINTERFYLLETH), Arð explore the culture, faith, and identity of Northern England through immersive concept albums.

Their acclaimed debut Take Up My Bones (2022) traced the legend of St. Cuthbert of Lindisfarne and sold out multiple pressings, quickly establishing the band as a unique new voice in extreme music. The follow-up album Untouched by Fire marks a major artistic leap, telling the story of the warrior king Oswald of Northumbria, charting his exile, rise to power, and the violent forging of a kingdom.

Musically, Arð remain rooted in doom metal, enriched by their trademark monk-like choirs, expanded dynamics, and subtle progressive elements. Deeks’ background as a choir arranger and conductor is central to the band’s sound, which is both solemn and monumental. Untouched by Fire was recorded at Klangschmiede Studio E with producer Markus Stock (EMPYRIUM, THE VISION BLEAK), delivering a vast yet organic production.

Renowned for their commanding live performances, Arð have earned strong word-of-mouth acclaim at festivals such as Prophecy Fest and beyond. Their innovative Organic Doom concert, featuring pipe organ, attracted international press coverage from outlets including The Guardian and the BBC.

With Arð, ancient Northumbria rises again: monastic chants, crushing riffs, and stories of faith, fire, and kingship brought vividly to life on stage.
