White light DISTRICT

White Light District is the new project from Justin K Broadrick, the Birmingham-born musician, producer and songwriter best known as the founder of Godflesh, and for his work as Jesu, JK Flesh and FINAL.

Conceived as a distinct new outlet for Broadrick’s heavier music, White Light District moves beyond the traditional format and the instrumentation that has defined much of his previous work.

Broadrick describes the project simply as “heavy, ugly music”, dense, dissonant and deliberately unrestrained. Rather than functioning as a continuation or replacement for Godflesh, White Light District is built around layers of guitar, extreme repetition, texture and sound, with Broadrick describing an approach involving as many as fifteen layers of guitar creating an “ultra-cluster of hallucinatory dissonance.”

He has cited the massed-guitar compositions of Glenn Branca as a reference point, while stressing that White Light District is neither confined by metal nor by conventional rock instrumentation.

A further glimpse into the direction of White Light District can already be heard in “Consume Me,” the closing track on Godflesh’s Decay. Broadrick has described the track as an additional, approximate template for where White Light District is heading.

The project represents a new chapter in Broadrick’s work and will become one of his principal creative focuses alongside Jesu, JK Flesh and his other ongoing projects following the completion of Godflesh’s final studio album, The End.

White Light District is represented worldwide by Mythology Agency.
